Post traumatic stress disorder is better known as PTSD in general. Post traumatic stress disorder refers to a mental disorder that can occur due to the human body and mind witnessing life threatening events like death of a parent, wars, natural disasters, loss of property, rape etc. it is very necessary that the symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder are brought under control before the symptoms take their toll completely. As a result of post traumatic stress disorder, the chances of a mental disorder are increased manifold. Post traumatic stress disorder can lead a person mentally handicapped for life in the later stages. Sometimes the shock to the mind is so strong and stressful due to a trauma that it may eventually lead to post traumatic stress disorder. People who suffer from post traumatic stress disorder have symptoms like flash back of the gruesome incident or trauma, having bad drams or night mares often, having difficulty in sleeping and preferring to stay secluded. The effects of post traumatic stress disorder are often severe and long lasting and it may take several months or even years to completely cure the patient. Post traumatic stress disorder leads to more of psychological problems like difficulty in talking with others, living in fear and having memory problems. The patient suffering from post traumatic stress disorder should be very well looked after by the family members and he should be given constant companionship. Every effort should be made to let the patient forget the trauma or the event that led to symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder. The patient should be encouraged to take up one several activities in which he can keep his mind engrossed and also contribute positively. The patient should be assured time and again that he ahs the support of everyone lese in the family. Once in a while the patient should be taken out for some source of entertainment like a picnic or a movie. This will help the patient come out of his post traumatic stress disorder gradually.
